HOW THERAPY WORKS
Meeting for an assessment helps us to develop a formulation together of how any problems may have come into your lives, what might be keeping them going, and what values and strengths you/your child might draw on to reduce their impact to re-centre what is important to you. To support you and/or your child to bring about change I may then draw on the following approaches:
NARRATIVE THERAPYExplores the stories we have developed to organise our thoughts, give meaning to our experiences and establish our identity in relation to others. NT uses our skills and values to minimise the impact of problems, and develop more strengths-based stories.
COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPYThoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected. CBT helps change the ways we think and behave to help us break out of vicious cycles of negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
SOLUTION-FOCUSED THERAPYFocuses on the 'present' and on problem-solving to find solutions. SFT assumes we are motivated to bring about change and draws on our strengths and resources to solve problems.
TRAUMA THERAPIESHelps by re-processing traumatic memories, and developing strategies to re-claim your life and sense of identity from being defined by the trauma. I use a combination of Narrative Exposure Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT and Narrative Therapy.
